Biking and Eating

Sunday was a good day. I joined the Ethnic Market Tour ride (part of Pedalpalooza, 2 plus weeks of bike fun around town), and we started at one of my neighborhood mexican shops. I bought chipotles and cactus fruit, and then we biked on to Pacific Market. How have I never been? It was a great big store, full of wonderful asian produce and noodles and all kinds of great stuff. I walked away with fresh (yellow) jackfruit, lychees, and arrowroot powder. I was trying to go light cause I was hoping to buy more, but then we turned around 1/2 way up the uphill butte (butt!) ride to Anoush that was kicking my ass, and then when we got to the middle eastern grocery outside of Ya Hala, we discovered that it was closed. Oh well, I coulda got more at Pacific, but now I have a reason to go back to that one, and a bunch of other stores in the area that we passed along the way. It was fun to ride and talk with other people about food: most of the riders were more biker than cook, and since I'm more cook than biker, we had a lot to talk about!

Tuesday I went on the Pedal Potluck Picnic, a bike ride starting at my coop and heading to a mystery, sometimes small-patch-of-greenspace location to have a vegan/vegetarian potluck. I brought leftover Romesco Sauce from lunch, and put it over pasta. In my tupperware container, that combination became a solid square that tasted a lot better than it looked. Because of this, I was able to bring a nice amount of it home for Aaron to enjoy for lunch the next day (which he was super happy about!) and discovered some chips stuck inside it (!!), like people were trying to eat it as dip, though most likely cause a lot of people forgot forks! Especially after recently reading a treatise on potluck etiquette and rules, it was pretty funny to go to one that basically violated every last one, and then still have a great time. I can't wait for the next one!
